Compressor Preventive Maintenance
Southern California
Compressors are among the most expensive and failure-prone assets in industrial facilities. Scheduled PM is the single most effective way to protect that investment.

The Program
Compressor Preventive Maintenance
Industrial compressors — rotary screw air compressors, reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, and refrigeration compressors — are critical assets in manufacturing, food processing, cold storage, oil and gas, and petrochemical facilities across Southern California. Direct Source provides electrical and mechanical preventive maintenance for industrial compressors of all types.
Schedule: Monthly, quarterly, or semi-annual compressor PM visits with full electrical and mechanical inspection at each visit.
Compressor Motor Electrical PM
Motor insulation resistance (megger) testing, winding temperature check, motor connection inspection and torque verification, vibration baseline, and electrical condition assessment for compressor drive motors.
Motor winding degradation is detectable months before failure with regular megger testing.
VFD & Starter PM
VFD cooling system cleaning, capacitor inspection, parameter backup, control board inspection, soft starter contact inspection, and overload relay calibration for compressor motor control equipment.
Compressor VFDs run at high duty cycles — they need more frequent PM than standard motor drives.
Mechanical Compressor Inspection
Belt and coupling inspection and tension check, oil level and condition assessment, filter inspection and replacement, vibration measurement, temperature trending, and mechanical condition assessment.
Oil analysis and vibration trending catch bearing and internal wear months before failure.
Refrigeration Compressor PM
Refrigeration compressor electrical and mechanical PM — motor checks, safety control testing, suction and discharge pressure trending, oil level and condition, crankcase heater verification, and refrigerant leak check support.
Refrigeration compressor failures risk both equipment damage and product loss. PM prevents both.
Compressor Controls PM
Compressor controller inspection, pressure switch calibration, temperature switch testing, safety shutdown system test, PLC or relay logic verification, and communication system check for networked compressor systems.
Safety controls on compressors must function correctly or a compressor failure becomes a safety incident.
Trend Reporting & Life Prediction
Every compressor PM visit is documented with trend data — motor temperatures, vibration readings, oil condition, and pressure differentials tracked across visits.
Trend data over multiple visits is far more valuable than a single-point inspection. We build that history.
Why Direct Source
What Makes Our Program Different
Electrical and mechanical in one PM program
Compressor PM spans both electrical (motor, VFD, controls) and mechanical (compression elements, oil system, coupling, belts). We cover both disciplines in one visit — one contractor, one report.
All compressor types
Rotary screw, reciprocating, centrifugal, scroll, and refrigeration compressors across air, refrigerant, and process gas applications. We adapt the PM scope to the compressor type and application.
Oil and gas and industrial refrigeration experience
We maintain compressors in oilfield, refinery, cold storage, food processing, and general industrial environments — including classified area compressor installations where explosion-proof electrical is required.
24/7 emergency response for PM clients
A compressor that fails unexpectedly often takes a production process or refrigeration system with it. PM contract clients get priority emergency response when a compressor goes down between scheduled visits.
Every Visit Includes
- Electrical and mechanical inspection
- Infrared thermography (thermal imaging)
- Written condition report
- Deferred items ranked by priority
- Emergency response priority between visits
Cities served: Los Angeles, Vernon, City of Industry, Ontario, Riverside, Santa Fe Springs, Long Beach, Anaheim, and all SoCal industrial markets.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of compressors do you maintain?
We maintain rotary screw air compressors (Ingersoll Rand, Atlas Copco, Kaeser, Gardner Denver, Quincy), reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, scroll compressors, and industrial refrigeration compressors (ammonia and HFC systems). Both electrical and mechanical maintenance.
How often should industrial compressors be PM’d?
High-duty air compressors in manufacturing environments typically need quarterly electrical and mechanical PM at minimum, with monthly checks on oil, filters, and belt tension. We assess your compressor duty cycle and criticality and recommend a schedule that fits.
Do you do PM on ammonia refrigeration compressors?
Yes. Ammonia refrigeration compressor PM includes both mechanical inspection and electrical checks in the classified area environment. Our electricians are Class I Division 1 certified for the hazardous location electrical work around NH3 refrigeration equipment.
Can you do compressor PM across multiple facilities in Southern California?
Yes. We serve manufacturing, food processing, cold storage, and industrial facilities across the LA Basin, Inland Empire, and Orange County. Multi-site PM programs are welcome — one contract, consistent reporting across all locations.
What does a compressor PM report include?
Each compressor PM report documents: equipment inspected, as-found condition on electrical and mechanical items, measurements taken (motor amps, temperatures, vibration, pressures), any corrective work performed during the visit, and deferred items ranked by urgency.
